Use of fresh plantains and non-hydrogenated palm olein
Only freshly harvested plantains qualify to become Ellis Banana Chips. Ellis Banana Chips are produced by cooking the fresh plantains in non-hydrogenated, premium palm olein which has a lower content of saturated fats compared to traditional palm oil. Its main advantage, however, is its high stability to oxidation during frying process which avoids the emergence of health-damaging trans fats. Most potato chips producers use ordinary, (partially-) hydrogenated oils which are considered as a principal source of trans fats.
NO Cholesterol - NO Trans Fats
Ellis Banana Chips are free of cholesterol and do not contain trans fats which is a significant health benefit compared to the traditional potato chips assortment. Trans fats are considered as very dangerous to health due to its negative impact on the cholesterol level and the thereby emerging risk of future heart diseases.
Therefore, the German Society of Nutrition recommends not to consume more than 1 % of trans fats of your daily food intake. Only 100 grams of potato chips can already contain up to 7 % of trans fats. The US Food & Drug Administration defined in June 2015 that artificial trans fats are no longer recognized as safe and have to be removed by 2018.
